What Disciplined Families Are Reviewing This September

Financial planning is a year-round discipline. But September creates a natural inflection point. The year is three-quarters complete. Tax projections are reliable enough to model with confidence. And the window for year-end actions is still wide enough to execute with precision.

Here is what disciplined families are reviewing right now:

Tax positioning. Has income tracked as expected? Are there Roth conversion or tax-loss harvesting opportunities that would not have been visible in June? Is the charitable giving strategy coordinated with the tax plan?

Portfolio alignment. Has market performance shifted the portfolio away from its target allocation? Are concentrated positions creating unintended risk? Does the current positioning reflect the family's income, legacy, and distribution plans?

Estate coordination. Have beneficiary designations been reviewed this year? Do estate documents reflect the permanent OBBBA exemption? For inherited IRA holders, is the distribution strategy on track?

Advisory alignment. Have your wealth advisor, CPA, and estate attorney communicated recently? The most common planning failures happen between disciplines, not within them. A September coordination meeting prevents the December scramble.

The Year-End Planning Checklist covers all four dimensions. Download it, scan it, and schedule the conversations that need to happen before December 31.
